Sochaux’s former Tunisian striker Santos returned to haunt the Stade Bonal on Saturday as Toulouse ran out 1-0 winners against the run of play.
Transferred from Sochaux to Toulouse at the end of last season Santos reacquainted himself with the Stade Bonal goal after just 16 minutes, racing onto a long through-ball and slotting the ball past Teddy Richert in the Sochaux goal.
The goal shook the hosts who had already carved out a number of presentable chances.
After the break Sochaux pulled out all the stops in search of an equaliser, but Toulouse captain Christophe Revault twice denied Brazilian striker Araujo Ilan while Jérémy Ménez and Jaouad Zaïri were unable to hit the target from close range.
In the end it was Revault that preserved all three points for the visitors with a spectacular save in stoppage time to deny Kader, in the process ending Toulouse’s horror run of eight-straight Ligue 1 defeats at the end of last season.
