Ligue 1 Week 2 - 6/8/05 (19.00)
Sochaux 0-1 PSG
Cissé 52
Stade Bonal

Paris Saint-Germain remain on top of the pile after picking up their second victory in two games away to Sochaux.

The contrast with the capital club's terrible start to last season – from which they never recovered – could hardly be greater, and the confidence will now come flowing back, if it has not done so already.

Instead, with two straight defeats it is Sochaux who are enduring the frustrating start, and their Coach Dominique Bijotat will want to turn things around quickly or perhaps suffer the ignominy of being the first boss to be sacked for the second year running.

The home side dominated proceedings, however, and it took excellent reactions from PSG centre-back Mario Yepes to block Araujo Ilan's shot on the goal-line after 15 minutes.

Thre Brazilian striker then fired straight at goalkeeper Lionel Letizi from point-blank range, and the lanky No 1 was in fine form as he kept out first-half efforts from Fabien Boudarène, Guirane Ndaw and Jérémy Menez.

Bernard Mendy whipped in PSG's only menacing effort before the break, but they came out with more ambition and took the lead when Edouard Cissé collected a pass from Pedro Pauleta, outfoxed Arnaud Bühler and unleashed a shot just inside the post.

The former West Ham has never scored more than two goals in a season, but he has already matched that tally in 2005-06 after netting against Metz last week.

Sochaux captain Mickaël Isabey saw his strike deflected wide by Mendy soon after, but it was PSG who finished strongest with Pauleta, Jérôme Rothen and Christophe Landrin all going close.

Sochaux: Richert - Potillon, So. Diawara, Ndaw, Bühler - Isabey (cap), Pitau (Zairi 71), Boudarène, Brunel - Ilan, Menez (Kader 83)

PSG: Letizi - B. Mendy, Rozehnal, Yepes, Armand - E. Cissé, Mbami, Dhorasoo (Landrin 77), Rothen - Pauleta (cap) (Pancrate 84), Kalou
