Sochaux and Lille are still struggling to get their respective seasons into gear after playing out a goalless draw at the Stade Bonal on Saturday.
The home side could have opened the scoring in a quiet first half. Jérémy Menez latched onto a perfect Araujo Ilan pass and burst through the Lille defence but, with just Tony Sylva to beat, the teenager rifled a cross against the bar.
Lille then had their first opportunity on 25 minutes, as Jean Makoun won possession and played Matt Moussilou in through the middle, but Moussilou totally miscued his shot.
Philippe Brunel almost made the perfect impact against his former club at the start of the second half, the Sochaux midfielder heading goalwards only for the ball to be hacked off the line by Grégory Tafforeau.
Sochaux finished the game on top and will feel they should have claimed the three points. Ilan almost broke the deadlock with a brilliant piece of individual play. After flicking the ball into the air with his back to goal, the Brazilian striker tested Sylva with a stunning overhead kick.
The best chance fell to Moumouni Dagano, however. Brunel picked out Ilan with a penetrating pass, and his deflection was perfect for Dagano to run onto, but the striker was foiled by the excellent Sylva.
