Saint-Etienne were unable to overcome 10-man Sochaux in an entertaining 0-0 draw at the Stade Geoffroy-Guichard on Saturday.
Les Stéphanois dominated the match but were unable to find the killer pass in the final third of the field in order to unlock a well-organised Sochaux outfit.
With Elie Baup’s side unable to turn their pressure into goals, it was Sochaux that should have taken the lead just before half-time when captain Mickaël Isabey failed to force a save from Jérémy Janot after good lead-up work from the lively Moumouni Dagano.
Pascal Feindouno went within a whisker of giving the hosts the lead just after the restart when his effort beat Teddy Richert in the Sochaux goal, only to crash back off the post.
Brazilian striker Araujo Ilan then received his marching orders for lashing out at Vincent Hognon, leaving Dominique Bijotat’s side to play nearly 40 minutes with 10 men.
However again it was Sochaux that could’ve stolen all three points when former Bologna playmaker Mourad Meghni, making his debut in French football, saw his 80th minute effort fly just wide.
The result means St-Etienne, 9th, maintain their unbeaten start to the season, with one win and four draws, while Sochaux, who have now gone three games without defeat, lie 14th.
