Rennes overcame their attacking woes at the Stade de la Route de Lorient on Sunday with an emphatic 4-1 triumph over Toulouse.
With just 16 goals from their opening 14 games (just three to last season's Ligue 1 top scorer Alexander Frei) Rennes finally rediscovered the free-scoring football that made them last season's best home team.
John Utaka could have had a penalty inside a minute when he was brushed off the ball by Dominique Arribage. Frei then had had the ball in the back of the net shortly afterwards, only to see his header ruled out for offside against Utaka, as Rennes dominated the opening exchanges.
The Brittany side finally went ahead just before the half-hour when midfielder Yohann Gourcuff volleyed home spectacularly from 20m out.
Toulouse somehow managed to get to the interval just a goal down, however, they found themselves two down immediately after the break when Rennes defender Abdeslam Ouaddou was left completely unmarked from Olivier Monterubbio's 48th-minute corner.
Frei then added a third seven minutes later, driving his header past the hapless Christophe Revault in the TFC goal from another superb delivery from the left boot of Monterubbio.
Toulouse left-back Daniel Congré then bundled home a consolation goal for the visitors before Rennes skipper Monterubbio finally added his own name to the scorecard with a last minute penalty.
The win lifts Laszlo Boloni's side to eighth, level with Lille on 23 points, and just a point adrift of Saint-Etienne and Monaco, while Toulouse's fourth defeat in five games sees them drop another place to 16th.
