Paris Saint-Germain bounced back from their defeat at Marseille last weekend by edging past Nancy 1-0 at the Parc des Princes.
The capital club were a long way from their best - and could even be regarded as lucky to have claimed all three points - but nonetheless succeeded in closing the gap with Lyon back to seven points after the League leaders had won earlier in the day.
Nancy, who went into the game on a run of four straight wins, started brightly and created the first opening of the game on 24 minutes. Pascal Bérenguer’s shot looked like it was going to trouble PSG ‘keeper Lionel Letizi before his own teammate Elie Kroupi directed it wide of the goal with an ill-advised header.
PSG had Pedro Pauleta back from suspension, but they struggled to find any fluidity and the Portuguese goal-getter was left to feed on scraps.
The only two chances the home side created in the first period fell to Jérôme Rothen (39) and Edouard Cissé (44), but both players were wayward in their finishing.
Inspired by a determined Vikash Dhorasoo, PSG began to impose themselves on Nancy after the break and they broke the deadlock eight minutes in.
Sylvain Armand picked out Bonaventure Kalou on the edge of the penalty area and the Ivory Coast international jinked inside a defender before striking a left-footed shot low into the net. It was his third goal of the campaign, with all three coming at the Parc des Princes.
PSG sat back on their lead and were almost punished four minutes before the end when Gaston Curbelo broke free, but the Argentinian’s shot was saved by Letizi.
