Sidney Govou’s late strike ensured that Lyon extended their unbeaten record this season to 22 matches with a 1-1 draw at Nice.
After coming from behind to claim a draw at the Santiago Bernabeu in midweek, Gérard Houllier’s side did exactly the same in the less glamorous surroundings of the Stade du Ray on Saturday.
Nice looked as though they could become the first side to beat Lyon since Paris Saint-Germain back in May when Mamadou Bagayoko gave them a deserved 22nd-minute lead. The Malian forward was left unmarked to head Cyril Rool’s free kick past Grégory Coupet.
Nice had two glorious chances to double their lead in the space of two second-half minutes, but Bakary Koné was twice denied by Coupet.
Lyon made their opponents pay when they levelled matters 15 minutes from time, Govou turning the ball home after Damien Grégorini had failed to hold onto Sylvain Wiltord’s cross.
