Defender Yves Deroff and Coach Jacky Duguépéroux were both sent off, but Strasbourg finally registered their first win of the season against Nancy.
It may have taken 18 matches in coming, but Saturday’s win over their rivals from Lorraine will certainly be savoured by the travelling fans from Alsace. The three points is also enough to lift the club off the bottom of the table, as they move ahead of Metz on goal difference.
The away team went ahead eight minutes before the interval when Mickaël Pagis slotted a penalty after Pape Diakhaté had brought down Haikel Gmamdia inside the area.
There was plenty of controversy to come after the break, with the game hotting up after Mosef Zerka had equalised for the home side three minutes into the second period.
Amara Diané had the Strasbourg fans back on their feet on 54 minutes, though, as he lobbed the Nancy ‘keeper Gennaro Bracigliano with a brilliant finish to restore the home side’s lead.
With Nancy piling on the pressure, Strasbourg threatened to cave in after Deroff had been given his marching orders on 58 minutes. An animated Duguépéroux was then ordered to the stands moments later, but ten-man Strasbourg clung on for their first win.
Nancy’s nightmare evening got worse when Adailton sustained a serious injury that could rule him out for the season.
