Promoted Nancy registered their first win of the season with a 6-0 thrashing of UEFA Cup qualifiers Rennes on Saturday.
Rock-bottom coming into the match with four losses from four, Nancy began the match with nothing to lose.
Striker Eli Kroupi back after serving a three-match ban for spitting in the season opener against Monaco took just 15 minutes to get the first of his three goals, acrobatically turning home the Brazilian Kim’s cross.
Just after the half-hour Kroupi doubled his and his sides tally with an unstoppable header from Jérémy Gavanon’s free-kick.
Rennes' Swedish ‘keeper Andreas Isaksson was given equally little chance when Kim’s cross from the right was cruelly deflected into his own net by Swiss defender Alain Rochat. to make it 3-0 just moments later.
The disbelieving crowd on hand at the Stade Marcel Picot was thrown even further into delirium by a fourth goal on the stroke of half-time. Another Gavanon free-kick was met this time by the head of Sébastian Puygrenier who drew a fine reflex save from Isaksson, only to see Pape Diakhaté slam the rebound into the roof of the net.
The second half saw Kroupi get his hat-trick from the penalty spot after being brought down by Isaksson before Puygrenier got his own name on the scoresheet with another header five minutes before the end.
The three points see Nancy climb off the foot of the ladder, while Rennes’ fourth defeat in five games sees them second-from-bottom with a goal-difference of -13.
