Nancy’s superb recent form came to a halt on Saturday when they were taken apart by a determined Nantes side at La Beaujoire.
Les Canaris showed their potential by knocking Lyon out of the Coupe de la Ligue 10 days ago, and they are starting to show some consistency in the League now, claiming seven points from the last nine available.
Nancy made their intentions clear from the start, lining up with the majority of their team behind the ball at all times.
It merely handed the initiative to the home side who logically went ahead on 27 minutes. Gennaro Bracigliano punched out a dangerous strike from Romanian playmaker Claudiu Keserü but the ball dropped nicely for Frédéric da Rocha who duly slotted it home.
The visitors looked to attack more after the break, but they were soon two goals down after a crisp Nantes counterattack.
Pape Diakhaté inadvertently helped the ball onto the feet of Franck Signorino, who struck a half volley which deflected off Landry Nguémo and into the net. It may have been a scrappy goal, but Nantes were good valure for their lead.
Substitute Habib Bamogo then capped the win with a third goal on 69 minutes, latching onto a long pass over the top and beating Bracigliano with a clever finish.
