Monaco thumped Ajaccio 3-0 at the Stade Louis II on Saturday thanks to goals from Ernesto Chavanton, Gaël Givet and Miroslav Plasil.
Francesco Guidolin's side opened the match confidently with Spaniard Gerard playing just behind the rejuvenated Chevanton in a 4-2-3-1 formation.
The Uruguayan hit-man had two early sights on goal before Monaco's Greek midfielder Akis Zikos forced Stéphane Porato into a spectacular save on the quarter-hour.
The visitors then began pressing further up the pitch and Monaco had to wait over 20 minutes before creating another chance for the offside-prone Chevanton.
With injuries to regulars Emmanuel Adebayor, Olivier Kapo and David Gigliotti, Guidolin gave a rare start to Nicholas Maurice-Belay and was repaid when the youngster threaded the ball through to Chevanton who made no mistake on 38 minutes.
The second half continued in similar fashion to the first with Monaco comfortably holding a pale Ajaccio attack at bay.
With just over 20 minutes left France defender Givet doubled the mark with a header from a well-struck Camel Meriem free-kick before Czech substitute Plasil added a third on 76 minutes, thrashing home a volley from 25 metres out.
The win sees Monaco climb back up to sixth place in the League, while Ajaccio's fifth defeat of the season means Rolland Courbis' men remain one spot above the relegation zone on goal-difference from Troyes.
