Metz fans were calling for the head of Coach Joël Muller after their side lost their fourth game of the season 2-1 to Auxerre and remained rooted to the foot of the Ligue 1 table.
The match was slow to get going at the Stade Saint-Symphorien as both sides seemed to favour a cautious approach.
Suddenly, on 31 minutes the game burst into life when Stéphane Morisot saw his shot from the edge of the area find Fabien Cool's crossbar as Metz coninued to search for their first home goal of the season.
Cruelly for Metz, Auxerre were to take the lead almost immediately. A Thomas Kahlenberg corner was headed home by AJA defender Jean-Pascal Mignot with 34 minutes on the clock.
For just under the next hour Metz would fiight valiantly for the equalising goal, only to be thwarted time and again by Cool. The Auxerre custodian's produced a wonderful double save just before the break to deny firstly Szabolcs Huzsti then Momar N'Diaye.
Metz dominated the second period and two Medhi Meniri headers almost brought Cool undone, but it was Auxerre that made the game safe against the run of play a minute before full-time. Peguy Luyindula raced free and comfortably beat Grégory Wimbée, scoring his second goal in two games since joining Auxerre from Marseille just before the close of the mercato.
Metz saved face with a injury-time consolation goal to N'Diaye but it did little to warm the Lorraine club's supporters who are running out of patience with their winless side, bottom of Ligue 1 with four from a possible 24 points. the win sees Auxerre climb to sixth with 13 points.
