Lens recorded a much-needed and deserved 1-0 win over Toulouse at the Stade Félix-Bollaert on Saturday thanks to Daniel Cousin's fifth goal of the season.
After seven consecutive Ligue 1 draws, Lens' first win since August 20 saw them climb from 11th to 8th in the standings, while Toulouse slipped a spot to 15th.
Lens' captain Jérôme Leroy had the ball in the back of Christophe Revault's net as early as the 10th minute only to see the effort rued out for offside. However, the visitor's reprieve was to be short-lived.
Leroy was again at the heart of the move with an enticing cross that Cousin rifled past Revault with a powerful diving header on 25 minutes.
Lens took their foot off the accelerator after the goal and the TFC got a rare look at their opponents' goal when Achilles Emana drew a save from Charles Itandje after 39 minutes.
Revault then produced a superb save to keep his side in the match by somehow getting a hand on Seydou Keita's goal-bound free-kick just before the interval.
After the break, Toulouse tried to find a way back into the game but Laurent Batlles saw his volley midway through the half flash just the wrong side of the woodwork.
Lens lifted the pace another notch towards the end but Leroy, Eric Carrière and Cousin were all unable to add to the scoreline.
