Paris Saint-Germain's disastrous away form continued at Auxerre's Stade l'Abbé-Deschamps on Sunday with Jacques Santini's side running out comfortable 2-0 winners.
The result sees Auxerre climb from 10th to 5th place in Ligue 1 with 23 points after 13 games, a single point from PSG in fourth.
Auxerre boast the best home defensive record in Ligue 1, with just two goals conceded in Bourgogne all season (0-2 v Lyon). PSG, with just one win away from the Parc des Princes this season, never looked like upsetting that statistic on an evening when it took 70 minutes for the capital club to get a shot on target.
The home-side could have been in front as early as the 3rd minute in what was to become a recurrent theme in the opening 45 minutes. Zimbabwean striker Mwaruwari Benjani failed to draw a save from Lionel Letizi in the visitors goal.
Former PSG midfielder Yann Lachuer was next to waste a presentable chance when he stole the ball off the better-placed Benjani and shot straight at the PSG custodian.
Peguy Luyindula then combined well with Benjani to carve out another chance just before the break, but after jinking inside Sylvain Armand, the former Marseille striker hooked his sht wide.
Inside two minutes of the restart ,Dane Thomas Kahlenburg and Lachuer both shot at Letizi as Auxerre picked up where they'd left off.
Ironically it was PSG midfielder Edouard Cissé who showed his hosts how it was done when in inadvertently turned home a Lachuer free-kick on 52 minutes.
Benjani then somehow contrived to hit the outside of the post after rounding Letizi before being substituted for Belgian striker Pieroni.
With PSG attackers Pauleta and Bonaventure Kalou cruelly starved of service, it was Pieroni that put the result beyond doubt in the 86th minute. Holding off the attentions of David Rozehnal, Pieroni nodded Kanga Akalé's corner into an unguarded net after Letizi aborted his attempts to come and claim the ball.
