A second-half double from Belgium striker Luigi Pieroni saw Auxerre come from behind to defeat Lille at the Stade l'Abbe-Deschamps on Saturday.
The match got off to a flying start when Benoît Cheyrou - filling in for the injured Stéphane Grichting in defence - brought down Lille striker Kevin Mirallas in the penalty box and Mathieu Bodmer colly slotted home the spot kick.
Auxerre found themselves level just after the quarter-hour mark when Pieroni royally set-up his captain Yann Lachuer for a simple finish.
Five minutes later and the visitors were back in front thanks to a superb strike from Yohan Cabaye who lobbed Fabien Cool in the Auxerre goal with a brilliantly taken volley from Bodmer's chip.
Jacque Santini's Auxerre side seemed unable to cope with a fired up Lille outfit and were lucky to make it to half-time trailling by a single goal.
After the break Auxerre fought back back, but it was still the visitors that went closest to adding to their advantage early when Nicolas Fauvergue and Hicham Aboucherouane went close.
In the 64th minute Aboucherouane then found the woodwork with a trademark free-kick and a minute later Auxerre's Philippe Violeau saw his effort deflected onto the crossbar.
Moments later Auxerre had a penalty when Pieroni was brought down in the area. The former Liege striker picked himself up and made no mistake from 12 yards out.
Pieroni then completed the comeback with a smart finish from Kanga Alaké's cut back as Auxerre recorded their eighth win of the season, moving provisionally third in the process with 26 points.
