A late goal from Gharib Amzine sealed three vital points for Troyes away to fellow strugglers Ajaccio.
The visitors may still lie 17th but they have opened up a six-point gap to the relegation zone, where their Corsican hosts are looking increasingly vulnerable in 18th. In fact, this was Rolland Courbis' side's seventh straight defeat yet they can feel slightly aggrieved after dominating most of the encounter.
Kamel Chafni missed a couple of chances early on, but they were nothing compared with the goal Ajaccio had disallowed in the 28th minute when Nenad Dzodic was dubiously adjudged to have committed a foul before setting up Kaba Diawara.
It was a tough break for Ajaccio, fo whom Chafni again failed to find the target when one-on-one with Ronan Le Crom. The Troyes goalkeeper then did well to keep out Daouad Jabi after the restart.
The visitors were virtually non-existent as an attacking force in the second half, but they somehow conjured up a winner when substitute Georges Ba raced down the left and crossed in for Moroccan striker Amzine to apply the finishing touch.
