Troyes call on Perrin to cough up

Tuesday 7 June, 2005

Portsmouth boss Alain Perrin is unlikely to have much of a summer holiday after receiving notice for another court appearance in July.

Already required to attend a hearing in France on July 7, Perrin has been dragged into another legal affair after his former club Troyes claimed that he owes them £771,000.

Troyes, recently promoted to the top flight, are in serious financial difficulty and want the Coach to respect a clause that was inserted into the contract extension he signed in November 2001.

The deal, which at the time tied Perrin to the Champagne club until 2005, stipulated that he pay Troyes approximately £20,000 per month for the remainder of the contract if he quit before the expiration date.

After joining Marseille in the summer of 2002, Perrin claims to have reached a verbal agreement with Troyes which saw Marseille sign midfielder Fabio Celestini for £2m on the condition that the money owed by the trainer be written off.

However, Troyes’s new President Thierry Gomez believes that deal is not legally binding and is now demanding that Perrin cough up.

“This appeal is a disgrace,” said Christophe Bouchet, who was Marseille President during Perrin’s time at the Stade Vélodrome.

“Alain's departure, which was given full approval by Troyes, was totally covered by Celestini’s transfer. If necessary, I will act as a witness.”

Perrin must therefore spend two consecutive days in court, with his second appearance arising after he accused Marseille of unfair dismissal.
