A headed goal from Brazilian defender Cris gave French champions Lyon a 1-0 Champions' League win over Rosenborg in Trondheim on Wednesday.
Following their triumphant 3-0 trouncing of Real Madrid two weeks ago Lyon confirmed their place atop the Group F standings with a maximum six points from two games - three points ahead of Rosenborg and Real Madrid who needed a late goal to overcome the Greeks of Olympiacos.
"It's a very important victory considering that both teams one their opening game," said Gérard Houllier immediately after the win. "We knew victory tonight would be a big step towards qualification to the knockout phase.
"We won this game in the first half and I'm very proud of my players. To play with such assurance away from home is a very good sign."
The Norwegian hosts came out all guns blazing, looking to confirm their own first round win over Olympiacos (3-1), but Lyon locked down the hatches and weathered the storm.
Houllier has taught his team to play without the ball and while Lyon conceded territory and possession they were never opened up.
The locals pace began to wane in the latter stages of the opneing stanza and the quadruple French champions capitalised in first-half stoppage time.
Cris rose highest at the back post to head home a Juninho Pernambucano corner.
Rosenborg returned from the changerooms showing renewed vigour for the task at hand but it was Lyon that could have closed out the game via the boot of Juninho. The Brazilian free-kick specialist almost doubled the mark with two trademark shots on 64 and 73 minutes.
The hosts through everything at their guests in the final quarter of an hour and Grégory Coupet made a smart save to deny Skjelbred before Johnson fired over the bar from a promising position.
