World Cup Draw:
Well take anyone, say France stars

Friday 9 December, 2005

Thierry Henry and William Gallas both say they don’t mind who France land in Friday evening’s World Cup draw.

Les Bleus are among the top eight seeds, meaning they will avoid big guns such as Brazil, Germany, Argentina and England.

They could be pooled with the Netherlands, the Czech Republic or Portugal, all of whom are in the third section, while the Ivory Coast, made up predominantly of Ligue 1 players, are in the second hat.

“I don’t have any specific wishes and I’m not afraid of anyone in particular,” said Arsenal captain Henry.

“I’ll take whoever we are given. I don’t agree with people who say that it is better to draw one team than another team. The France team and the French people shouldn’t regard themselves as being better than others.

"The best 32 teams of the moment will be there and everyone deserves respect."

Meanwhile, Chelsea defender William Gallas is also ready to take on any opponent.

"It’s my first World Cup so I’m no expert but I’ll take anyone," he said. "I can’t say I’d prefer this team or that team. It would be pretentious to think that we are better than another side.

"We’ve beaten some good teams recently but that doesn’t mean it will be the same in Germany.

"Brazil are the team we fear the most and it’s good to avoid them in the first round. The Czechs are experienced, the Dutch play good football but I don’t have any preference."
