Lamine Diatta has ended speculation that he could be moving to the Premiership by extending his Lyon contract.
The versatile defender, 30, is not first choice at the Stade Gerland but has impressed Lyon Coach Gérard Houllier with his positive attitude.
The Senegal international, now tied to the champions until 2008, said: “Staying at Lyon is a fantastic challenge. I am really thrilled. It’s a massive vote of confidence from the club and from the Coach.”
Linked with Birmingham, Fulham and Charlton, Diatta has featured in just six games for Lyon this season, but started Tuesday’s Champions’ League win over Rosenborg at centre-back. He can also play right-back.
