Auxerre striker Peguy Luyindula admits he is not sure how he will react when he returns to the Stade Vélodrome to face Marseille on Saturday.
The France international spent one fractious season with the Mediterranean outfit before being sent out on loan in September by the club's less-than-impressed sporting director José Anigo.
"It's going to be a strange experience and I've been thinking about it, but not all the time I should add," he revealed. "Above all, it's a game I want to play for my club.
"I was still training with the Marseille players four months ago and I didn't expect to leave. To be honest, it's very difficult to explain what going back there represents.
"When I was sent out on loan, the club had made the decision they weren't going to play me. So even if I do well, it's just one match and it's not going to change anyone's opinions."
Luyindula could well receive a hostile reception from the notoriously vocal OM crowd, but he insists that he has nothing to be afraid of.
"I don't know how they'll react but, honestly, I'm not apprehensive at all. I'm going to be back at a stadium I like in front of fans I like.
"I didn't live up to the expectations people had of me or even my own, but I also finished as the club's top-scorer at the end of a difficult season.
"People can hold a grudge if they want, just not to the point of showing animosity. I didn't kill anyone."
Since joining Auxerre, the former Lyon ace has gone a long way to restoring his reputation, netting six goals to help Jacques Santini's side up to second in Ligue 1.
Marseille have struggled meanwhile and lie 10th in the standings, however Luyindula refuses to draw any satisfaction from their current predicament.
"The problem is that I'm well-behaved and I was brought up properly," he retorted. "Anyone who thinks otherwise just doesn't know me very well."
