Marseille President Pape Diouf has claimed that Liverpool striker Djibril Cissé is unhappy at Anfield and wants to join the Ligue 1 giants.
The France international is desperate to see more action in the run-up to next summer's World Cup, but he was on the bench once again at the weekend for the Reds' Premiership clash with Wigan.
"Djibril is not satisfied with his playing time at Liverpool," explained Diouf. "And he has Marseille in his heart, which clearly convinced him to express his desire to join us.
"As we are looking for a quality attacker, it didn't fall on deaf ears. To us, Djibril Cisse would be the perfect reinforcement."
Diouf also insisted that OM were well-placed to seal a loan deal this January, having already spoken to Liverpool about bringing Cissé to the Stade Vélodrome.
"Indeed, it is a possibility" he said. "There are contacts. A six-month loan is conceivable, with an option to prolong the adventure if it goes smoothly.
"But in this complex case we have to progress step-by-step."
