French Coaches Paul Le Guen, Didier Deschamps and Arsène Wenger are all being linked with the vacant Real Madrid hotseat.
Brazilian trainer Wanderley Luxemburgo was relieved of his duties yesterday evening and a number of leading talents are being mentioned as possible replacements.
Former reserve-team boss Juan Lopez Caro has been promoted on a temporary basis, but President Florentino Perez is known to want a big name to take over and all three Frenchmen enjoy favourable reputations in Spain.
Ex-Monaco Coach Deschamps was approached by Valencia earlier this year and is highly respected following his spell playing in La Liga, yet his prospects may have dimmed following his acrimonious departure from the principality.
Meanwhile, Le Guen is still being linked with Glasgow Rangers but he appears reluctant to take the post and is sure to enter into Perez's calculations thanks to his excellent record with Lyon where he won three Ligue 1 titles in three years.
Arsenal boss Wenger is the only one of the trio currently attached to a club, and he recently expressed his desire to see out his contract in north London.
"Until 2008 I have glue on my seat here," he said last week. "My desire is to stay here."
Also being talked up are Liverpool tactician Rafael Benitez, Chelsea's Jose Mourinho, England Coach Sven-Göran Eriksson and Juventus mastermind Fabio Capello.
