Bordeaux boss Ricardo says his team deserved their 1-0 victory over Lille despite being sorely tested by the visitors and a poor pitch.
Brazilian midfielder Fernando Menegazzo struck the third-placed club's winner after 80 minutes, but until that moment it looked as if neither side would be able to find the back of the net.
"It was extremely difficult yet we merited this win because of how we played in the second half," explained Ricardo.
"Our opponents were very good and well-organised and I'm not even going to mention the pitch. In the end, it needed a goal like Fernando's to make the difference.
"We weren't very good in the first half but our movement was better in the second and the most important change was that we played ten metres higher up the pitch."
Lille Coach Claude Puel was also far from impressed with the Stade Chaban-Delmas surface and believes his team were denied a draw at the very least.
"It's always frustrating to lose a game like that, in very difficult conditions and on a pitch which was practically unplayable in the second half," he commented.
"In spite of that, we played a very good match and were very serious. It hurts to concede a goal the way we did and unfortunately there was no divot when [Fernando] took his shot.
"We deserved better than that. We've dropped points tonight but I have no complaints about our attitude. We were up for it and we caused Bordeaux problems."
Midfielder Mathieu Bodmer insisted that the northerners will bounce back quickly, though, with Wednesday's vital Champions' League clash away to Villarreal next up on the agenda.
"That'll be different; a different team and a different level," he said. "And it will be up to us to show what we can do and take three points.
"We've already been able to recover well from a loss this season and we'll have to do it again because we know Villarreal is going to be a real test."
