Auxerre full back Bakary Sagna should be back in action towards the end of March after an operation on his ankle went smoothly.
The France Under-21 ace ruptured ligaments during Auxerre’s Coupe de la Ligue defeat by Le Mans this week and it was feared that he would not play again this season.
However, the operation carried out by Dr. Bertrand Sonnery-Cottet at the Saint-Anne-Lumière clinic in Lyon was a success.
Sagna will have to wear a leg brace for six weeks before returning to training, and he could be back in first-team action inside three months.
Sagna has already missed the first two months of the season with a knee injury.
Three other Auxerre defenders - Stéphane Grichting (ankle), Younes Kaboul (knee) et Jean-Sébastien Jaures (ankle) have already had surgery this season.
