Coupe de la Ligue:
Tough draw for favourites

Friday 23 December, 2005

Coupe de la Ligue favourites Bordeaux and Monaco have been handed tricky away ties in the quarter-final draw.

Bordeaux have been rewarded for their victory over Nantes with a trip to Nice, while Monaco must also go away from home after they were paired with Toulouse.

Finalists in 1997 and 1998, Bordeaux won the trophy for the first time in 2002, while Monaco lifted the silverware in 2003 after one earlier final appearance in 2001.

Francesco Guidolin’s side are unlikely to have it all their own way at the Stadium Municipal, however.

Toulouse have shown excellent form in the competition this season, most notably beating Paris Saint-Germain 2-0 in the last round.

The only team from outside the top flight through to the last eight is Guingamp, and the Ligue 2 outfit will be pleased after they were drawn against Le Mans.

The last tie sees Nancy, 12th in Ligue 1, take on Ajaccio, who are currently 19th.

Draw in full:

Guingamp (L2) v Le Mans
Toulouse v Monaco
Nice v Bordeaux
Nancy v Ajaccio

Ties to be played on January 17 and 18.
