World Cup winner Laurent Blanc is ready to embark on his coaching career, and says he will be looking to follow in the footsteps of Arsenal boss Arsène Wenger.
The former Manchester United defender, 40, is hoping to take charge of a top European team, having obtained his coaching badges after three years of studying.
But he explained that he would like to take full responsibility for the football side of the club that he joins much like Wenger does at Highbury.
“This may sound pretentious but I’d would like a hands on job with a lot of responsibility at a big club - a club that has the means to play an important part in the European Cups,” he said.
Blanc hinted that he may find himself searching for a club in England. “(Strasbourg general manager) Marc Keller has this kind of role in France. But it’s true that this job has not really been developed in France.
“More than anywhere else you find it in England. I would love to have a job like Arsène Wenger’s,” he added.
Blanc admitted he could have taken over at Marseille earlier this year but preferred to continue his studies.
“Yes, I was offered Marseille,” he explained. “But at the time I didn’t feel ready. I didn’t feel I had everything required to fill the role.”
Blanc feels the knowledge he has accumulated since retiring from playing will prove invaluable.
“I have been studying in order to continue working in a sport that I am passionate about,” continued the former Inter Milan star. “The years that I spent on the pitch are not a guarantee of success.
"I wanted to improve my knowledge of certain subjects such as physical preparation.
“At the same time I’ve tried to gather together and class all of the different experiences I’ve had.”
