Toulouse’s New Year's resolution

Toulouse boss Erick Mombaerts hopes that Wednesday’s battling Coupe de la Ligue win over PSG (2-0) is a sign of things to come in 2006.

After a dreadfully inconsistent first half of the season, Les Violets ended the year on a high when Fode Mansare and Daniel Moriera (pictured) scored late goals to book the club’s place in the quarter-finals.

Mombaerts said: “We were physically present. We’ve got players who are starting to play with freedom and starting to play intelligently.

“I now feel that we have a real team. We showed the kind of qualities that I am hoping to see all of the time - particularly in the league matches. I want us to keep that kind of spirit in 2006.

“I try to emphasise the importance of competition and we seem to be on the right road now.”

The Toulouse boss was keen to single out the efforts of Moreira. “The way he gave everything throughout was an example of what I want to see from all of my players,” added Mombaerts.
