Monaco are poised to complete the loan signing of Italian international striker Marco Di Vaio from Valencia.
According to Wednesday’s L’Equipe, the principality club “were very close to completing the signing on Tuesday evening”.
The former Juventus forward has featured just five times in La Liga this season and is keen to play more regularly to improve his chances of making Italy’s World Cup squad.
Should the loan deal go through, Monaco would cover 50 percent of the 29-year-old’s wages, or in other words about £70,000 a month.
Monaco vice-President Gérard Brianti said earlier this week: “Whether it is Di Vaio or someone else, we’d like to finalise the deal before the re-start on January 5.”
Di Vaio had also been linked with Marseille, but is believed to prefer Monaco where he would team up with the former Udinese and Palermo Coach Francesco Guidolin (pictured).
Should the move go through, Togo star Emmanuel Adebayor could find himself on the way out, with Marseille keen to swoop.
