Arsenal Coach Arsène Wenger was furious with the match officials after the Gunners’ 2-0 loss to Chelsea on Sunday.
Goals from Arjen Robben and Joe Cole were enough to secure the three points for the Blues at Highbury, but Arsenal were denied what looked like a perfectly good Robin Van Persie strike when the scores were level.
The linesman flagged for offside against Thierry Henry, yet the French striker did not touch the ball and was arguably not interfering with play.
“I feel we scored a regular goal, but I associate the referee with the linesman,” said the ex-Monaco Coach. “They were in the same team the Chelsea team.”
Wenger was also angry with Michael Essien, who appeared to catch Gunners right-back Lauren with an elbow in the first half.
“Essien was a straight red in my opinion, but the referee was not brave enough to give it,” he continued. “It was just in front of the dugout and he hit Lauren with an elbow. He didn't play the ball, he played the player.”
The result, also their third straight defeat and fourth game without a goal, means that Arsenal trail the Premiership leaders by 20 points.
