Coach Vahid awarded PSG damages

Monday 19 December, 2005

Paris Saint-Germain have been ordered to pay former Coach Vahid Halilhodzic £2.4m after being found guilty of unfair dismissal.

The industrial tribunal in Saint-Germain-en-Laye ruled that the club owed the Bosnian trainer compensation and damages for sacking him at the start of the year, following a poor showing in the first half of the 2004-05 season.

The figure nonetheless falls far short of the £6.1m Halilhodzic demanded in September for the "unilateral and unfair termination of his contract."

In spite of that, club lawyer Chantal Giraud Van Gaver left the tribunal claiming she "couldn't understand" the ruling.

Halilhodzic was replaced in February by Laurent Fournier, who now finds his own job on the line.
