Toulouse President Olivier Sadran has criticised referee Patrick Lhermite for awarding a controversial penalty in yesterday's 1-0 loss to Monaco.
With seven minutes left to go in the match at the Stade Louis II, Lhermite whistled for a highly dubious foul by Dominique Arribagé on Emmanuel Adebayor (pictured), and Olivier Kapo stepped up to score the winner from the spot.
"What's sad is that this makes me want to quit football," raged Sadran. "I'm asking myself questions about whether I'm right for football and whether I should continue in it.
"There's a huge problem with refereeing. Either we're dealing with incompetence which the TV images seem to prove and which isn't too serious because we can train young referees or the pressure around the game is too much.
"If I stay in football, I will keep fighting to give [referees] modern technology. It's crazy to work in the same conditions as 50 years ago. What happened tonight is harmful for football, for the players and for the longevity of the game."
