Bordeaux Coach Ricardo could not be consoled by the fact his team lie second in Ligue 1 after watching them fail to break down Nantes yesterday.
The goalless draw took Les Girondins ahead of Auxerre on goal difference, yet Ricardo is more concerned with seeing his side overcome their local rivals when the two clubs meet again in the Coupe de la Ligue on Tuesday.
"We started well but after the first 15 minutes we made the wrong choices in midfield and Nantes kept us at bay," commented the Brazilian. "The second half was different and we managed to push up better without being taken on the counter-attack.
"That's what we need to do over the full 90 minutes. For me this match isn't finished we're just changing competitions on Tuesday.
"As far as being second goes, to be honest I'd rather be fourth or fifth but with four or five more points on the board. And I think we could have had them.
"At this stage it's points that count, not where you are in the League. That's what I've been telling the players."
His counterpart Serge Le Dizet was a far happier man, meanwhile, not least because Nantes ended a run of six consecutive away defeats.
"Getting a point at Bordeaux was never going to be easy so we're satisfied. Since our first two away games we've come home with nothing.
"We need to build on this for future away matches. This could be a trigger, if we show a little more concentration, rigour and discipline."
