Strasbourg defender Yves Deroff has had his red card taken away by the French League (LNF) despite breaking the leg of Nancy defender Adailton in the challenge.
The committee for discipline of the LNF ruled that Deroff challenge was totally involuntary. “There is nothing to penalise and we have decided to wipe the red card from the player’s file,” read a statement.
Deroff seemed to lose his balance and fall on top of Adailton’s leg, resulting in a badly broken shinbone for the Brazilian defender.
Adailton has already undergone surgery and is now facing eight months on the sidelines.
Strasbourg boss Jacky Duguépéroux (pictured) applauded the decision. “I’ve seen the incident several times now and Yves Deroff did not commit a foul,” he said. “He was the victim of a refereeing mistake.”
