Inter have agreed an unofficial deal for Monaco’s Brazilian full-back Douglas Maicon, according to reports in Italy.
Maicon, who is seen as a long-term successor to Nerazzurri captain Javier Zanetti, has earned rave reviews in France for his sublime Ligue 1 performances.
The 23-year-old first came to prominence playing for Cruzeiro and joined the French side in 2004, since when his speed, attacking instincts, excellent ball control and eye for a pass have also impressed the Brazil national side.
The South American right-back, who was brought to the attention of Inter by Adriano last summer, is contracted to Les Monegasques until 2008 and is valued at just over £2m.
Although Monaco are said to be prepared to sell the defender to the highest bidder, it is thought that an informal agreement has already been struck that will tie the player to Inter for five years from next summer.
