Former France captain Didier Deschamps is one of three names being considered for the Real Madrid post, according to reports.
Le Parisien newspaper claims that the ex-Monaco boss could soon be reunited with Zinedine Zidane once again, as the seven-times European champions close in on a replacement for the axed Wanderlei Luxemburgo.
Real President Florentino Perez has supposedly whittled down his list of targets to three, with Deschamps, former Deportivo La Coruna Coach Javier Irureta and former Celta Vigo boss Victor Fernandez in contention.
Deschamps is held in high esteem in Spain following a successful spell with Valencia towards the end of his playing career, while Perez has still not forgotten the way in which the Frenchman's swashbuckling Monaco side dumped Real out of the Champions’ League in 2004.
Deschamps stood down as Monaco boss earlier this season.
