Bordeaux defender Kodjo Afanou has rejected the opportunity to represent Togo in the African Cup of Nations, but may still make himself available for the World Cup.
The 28-year-old, who was born in Lome, has held talks with Togo boss Stephen Keshi.
“Afanou and I have had discussions but he won’t be taking part in the African Cup of Nations,” Keshi said. “Maybe for the World Cup he will change his mind,” added the former Nigerian international.
Afanou has been part of the Bordeaux set up for over a decade, playing 27 times in Les Girondins’ championship winning season of 1998-99.
He has featured in all but one of Bordeaux’s Ligue 1 fixtures this season.
