Paris Saint-Germain Coach Laurent Fournier could soon find himself without a job if reports in France are to be believed.
Sports daily L'Equipe state that PSG President Pierre Blayau is tired of inconsistent results and could move to replace Fournier during the winter break a notion seemingly backed up by Blayau's own words yesterday.
"The question [of replacing the Coach] is one we all have to look at together," he told Le Parisien after the capital outfit beat Rennes 2-0 to move up to fourth.
"When stability sometimes and I mean sometimes rhymes with mediocrity, then that's not a good thing.
"This team is just not consistent enough to have any hope of finishing second. So today, I'm sounding the alarm.
"The win [over Rennes] was obligatory, but it doesn't diminish the concerns I have about the behaviour of the team."
L'Equipe report that Blayau's comments were well-thought through, and that he consulted the club's owners, Canal Plus, as well as certain players before going to the press.
He is believed to have had doubts about Fournier since the 3-0 loss to Saint-Etienne on September 18, and has since been angered by PSG's failure to perform against opponents like Marseille (0-1), Lyon (0-2) and Auxerre (0-2).
Fournier has not helped his cause with some surprising team choices and unsettled tactics, and has been criticised internally for repeating the need for 'concentration and determination' ad nauseam.
There is a feeling too that Fournier cannot impose his authority on the squad, and that some players refuse to go along with his training methods.
Blayau appointed him on a permanent basis in May after failing to convince Paul Le Guen to return to the Parc des Princes, but another attempt to bring in the former Lyon boss looks inevitable in the coming weeks.
It is also alleged that Blayau has met with ex-Sochaux trainer Guy Lacombe, who is currently working as a consultant for Canal Plus.
Didier Deschamps and Raynald Denouiex are likewise being touted as possible replacements.
