Coach: Gérard Houllier
Not everyone was convinced the appointment of Gérard Houllier was the best way to take Lyon to the next level, but the fiercely-proud former France boss will be desperate to prove he has what it takes on his return to Ligue 1 after a 17-year absence. No more than an amateur in his playing days, Houllier initially came to prominence as a Coach at Lens, before bossing Paris Saint-Germain to their first Ligue 1 title in 1986. That earned him a spell in charge of Les Bleus, but their 1994 World Cup qualification campaign ended in disaster, and Houllier first picked up a reputation as a man willing to blame anybody but himself as he pinned France's failure on David Ginola. His six years at Liverpool were certainly trophy-laden, but League success eluded him. |
