Marseille continue to fine-tune their squad, bringing in Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Lorik Cana and lining up Basel striker Christian Gimenez.
Meanwhile, Marseille midfielder Laurent Batlles has been offloaded to Toulouse, and OM President Pape Diouf is refusing to give up hope of signing Liverpool forward Djibril Cissé on loan.
Albania international Cana is set to pen a three or four-year contract with the Mediterranean club, according to a statement released on the Marseille website on Wednesday evening.
PSG are yet to confirm the news.
Cana, who is a defensive midfielder, has lost his place in the PSG starting line-up of late and is likely to be involved far more regularly if he signs for struggling Marseille.
The 22-year-old, who played 32 games for PSG last term, would cost around £2m.
Gimenez refused to play for Basel in their Champions' League qualifier on Wednesday, ensuring that he will be available to play for Marseille in the UEFA Cup.
The Argentine forward has been at the Swiss club since 2001 and top-scored for them with 22 goals in 2002. "He should sign for two years with the option of an extra season. The transfer fee will be around £700,000," Diouf said on the Marseille website.
Batlles had only recently extended his Marseille contract to 2007, but the player and club have agreed to part company after the former Toulouse star lost his place in the side.
Having already represented Les Violets from 1994 until 1999, Batlles has agreed to return for a second spell. "We wanted to keep him but he has not been a regular in the first team," said Diouf. "He wanted to play more regularly so when Toulouse made an offer, we didn't want to keep him against his will."
Marseille should pick up just over £500,000 for the player, who is set to pen a three-year deal.
