Former Marseille Coach Alain Perrin has revealed that he is in talks to become the new Portsmouth boss.
Perrin, who was sacked by Marseille midway through last season, said he had already held talks with Pompey chairman Milan Mandaric.
"We had a meeting and I have made my case, but for the moment no decision has been made," said the former Troyes Coach.
"I'm waiting for a call from the chairman but I'm not the only candidate, so I don't know yet."
Nonetheless, Mandaric confirmed that Perrin was the man he wanted. "Alain is our number one candidate," he said. "But it's not done and dusted and we have to iron out some details with Alain on Thursday."
Perrin, who was a candidate for the Southampton job last season, said there was even a chance that he could take charge immediately, rather than waiting until the summer to move in.
It has been reported that former Tottenham and Luton manager David Pleat will join Perrin at Fratton Park in a consultancy role with the pair working under executive director Velimir Zajec.
It is thought that Mandaric also approached the former Paris Saint-Germain boss Vahid Halilhodzic.
