Italy will be confident of group stage qualification after being drawn against Ecuador, Croatia and Mexico in the 2002 World Cup Finals.

The Azzurri will be based in Sendai, Japan and open their World Cup in Sapporo on June 3 against first time finalists Ecuador.

Giovanni Trapattoni’s side will then travel to Ibaraki to play Croatia on June 8. The final group clash is on June 13 in Oita when Mexico will be the opposition.

The opening match of the Finals will be world champions France against Senegal in Seoul on May 31, 2002.
