Friendlies: Trio stroll to victories
Friday 5 September, 2008

Bologna, Lecce and Cagliari all secured handsome wins in friendlies yesterday evening.

This weekend's World Cup 2010 qualifiers mean that there is no Serie A action and the onus is on top-flight sides to keep in shape for Week 2.

Bologna began their campaign with a heroic win away to Milan, but the Felsinei weren't allowed to rest on their laurels as they took on amateur side Imolese.

New signing Davide Marchini put Daniele Arrigoni's men ahead after 10 minutes and it was 2-0 five minutes later courtesy of Davide Carrus.

However, the tenacious minnows fought back to 2-2 with a Muzzi penalty and a Toschi goal.

Marco Di Vaio [pictured] restored Bologna's lead and was brought down for a penalty that Massimo Marazzina converted for 4-2 before Gabriele Paonessa completed the scoring.

Lecce had less trouble with Veglie as they eased to a comprehensive 5-0 victory.

The star of the show was Brazilian summer signing Leonardo, who scored a brace but fellow new recruit Fabio Caserta also struck twice to add to an own goal.

Cagliari suffered a worrying 4-1 defeat at the hands of Lazio in their Week 1 encounter but they returned to winning ways against lowly Villacidrese.

Michele Ferri set the tone for a 6-0 win with a left-footed drive on 31 minutes and the lead was doubled by Joaquin Larrivey two minutes later.

Andrea Lazzari scored from a free-kick and Davide Biondini pounced for 4-0.

Alessandro Matri's precise finish made it 5-0 and the floodgates opened as Andrea Cossu's drive deflected in off a defender.

It should really have been 7-0 but Matri also had a late penalty saved.
