| Inter midfielder Patrick Vieira is confident the Nerazzurri will bounce back from derby defeat with victory over Werder Bremen tomorrow.
Jose Mourinho lost his first Derby della Maddonina in slightly controversial circumstances as his players insisted Ronaldinho's decisive goal was scored from an offside position.
“We lost the derby but I agree with Massimo Moratti and Mourinho that a draw would have been a fair result,” Vieira told La Gazzetta dello Sport.
“However, they scored the goal and they deserve congratulations, even if I think the referee made a mistake.
“There's no point in going back over events. A referee is part of the game and sometimes they do well, sometimes not so well.
“Milan showed more grit at the start but in the end it wasn't character that was lacking and we certainly didn't settle for defeat.”
Inter began their Champions League campaign with a win away to Panathinaikos and can take control of their Group with victory over Werder Bremen.
“Werder are a good team but we believe in our abilities and we won't fail in two games in a row,” Vieira insisted.
“If we can get to six points from two games then we have already opened the door to the knockout stages.
“It's not that we are putting the Champions League first because we think we can win the Scudetto as well.”
