Luciano Spalletti assures he is “in absolute agreement” with the administration and Roma will get back on their feet.
He had seemed one of the most stable Coaches in Serie A before the season kicked off with four points from as many games plus a Champions League home defeat to Cluj.
There were reports this week that crisis talks saw Spalletti argue with director of sport Daniele Pradé over their transfer policy.
“That is not true. I did not meet with the directors on Monday, as I had a personal matter to attend to that meant I didn’t return to Rome until late in the evening.
“This is not the first time things I haven’t done have been attributed to me. It has all been invented by the media. I like the players we bought and they are good for our plans.”
Injuries have caused a lot of problems so far and the new faces are yet to impress, but even the old guard have disappointed.
“We must no longer fall into the same traps we did after the goal was disallowed against Genoa. If we let individual incidents trip us up, then it’s a sign we still need the mental strength to overcome something that did not depend on us.”
Christian Panucci’s disallowed goal infuriated the Giallorossi and soon after Daniele De Rossi was sent off, ruling him out of Sunday’s match with Atalanta.
“Roma are in good shape. We are working to get out of this situation and when everything isn’t going right, it becomes difficult to get results,” continued Spalletti.
“We are trying to recreate that spirit that allows us to play at our level. I want to overturn this situation along with the players.
“We must have a healthy fear of all opponents, but at the same time find the certainty of our own qualities to step out there with the belief we can beat anyone.”
Along with the suspended De Rossi, Roma are without the injured Julio Baptista, David Pizarro, Juan, Marco Cassetti and most likely Francesco Totti too.
