Ferrari: Why I snubbed top trio
Wednesday 24 September, 2008

Genoa defender Matteo Ferrari is preparing to face former club Roma and boasts that he turned down Inter, Milan and Juventus this summer.

After four years with the Giallorossi, Ferrari decided to find a fresh challenge when his contract at the Stadio Olimpico expired this summer.

The Grifone eventually swooped for the free agent, but Ferrari claims he had already vetoed some high profile suitors.

“I decided in January that I wouldn't renew my Roma contract,” the ex-Everton stopper said.

“I was offered some good money but I was going to be a reserve and I don't feel inferior to Philippe Mexes or Juan. I needed a change of scene.

“Milan and Inter both wanted me, but I would have been in the same situation as at Roma - I wouldn't have been a first-team regular.

“I decided to go for Genoa after they had spent a month and a half looking for me. Their desire and the project I saw made me agree to move to Marassi.”
