Cesare Prandelli realises he must rotate the squad effectively if Fiorentina are to handle Sunday’s clash with Napoli and the Champions League.
“This is a very tough test under every aspect. We are going there to take the initiative, give our best and remain organised,” said the tactician.
“I have many doubts still over the starting XI, as much of it depends on the condition of the internationals. Some played two games this week, others made long journeys and only arrived back yesterday.
“This Fiorentina side has a strong squad so in any case, and seeing we are at the start of a pretty packed run of fixtures, I intend to use many players in this period.”
The Viola are in the Champions League again for the first time in six years and Prandelli is aware this will put a great strain on the team.
“The concept of team spirit is central to our play, as everyone knows they are important and must be motivated when they are called upon.”
Mario Alberto Santana and Manuel Pasqual are doubts after picking up knocks during training today, while Jorge Vargas should be rested, so Franco Semioli and Massimo Gobbi are expected to step in.
It is a tricky trip to Napoli, who held Roma to a 1-1 draw at the Olimpico in Week 1 and are also enthusiastic after a return to the UEFA Cup.
“There are some very interesting individuals at Napoli, players who can change the game in a moment. Ezequiel Lavezzi is not the only danger man.”
