Jurgen Saumel's cracking volley gave Torino victory over Palermo after Antonio Nocerino's red card and the woodwork rattled three times.
Toro were still fuming after several refereeing errors in recent weeks that contributed to the fact they'd lost five of their last six games. Matteo Sereni, Cesare Natali, Eugenio Corini, Ignazio Abate and the suspended Matteo Rubin missed out, while Alessandro Rosina was again dropped to the bench.
The Sicilians made the trip without banned duo Mark Bresciano and Moris Carrozzieri, plus Marco Amelia, Andrea Raggi and Ciro Capuano. They hadn't won here since a 3-1 Coppa Italia result in 1978-79 and their only Serie A victory in Turin was the very first, in October 1932.
Torino got off to by far the better start and dominated the opening 15 minutes, Dzemaili drilled just wide from 30 metres, then veteran goalkeeper Alberto 'Jimmy' Fontana flew to parry a Roberto Stellone header.
Both teams hit the woodwork in the space of a few minutes. First Fabrizio Miccoli unleashed a screamer from over 20 yards that ricocheted off the underside of the bar and was turned wide by the on-rushing Edison Cavani.
Moments later it was Toro's turn, as Dzemaili combined passes with Aimo Diana down the right and clipped the post with the outside of his right foot.
Former Bolton man Dzemaili's free kick skimmed the crossbar and Toro failed to make the most of a disastrous Fontana goalline clearance that ricocheted off a Granata shirt into the path of Nicola Amoruso.
Torino gontinued to notch up the best chances, as Dzemaili sparked a counter-attack that finished with Simone Barone's rising strike from the edge of the box clipping the crossbar once more.
Dzemaili was putting in a Man of the Match performance and brought another splendid save from Fontana's fingertips with a fierce strike from distance.
Gianni De Biasi threw on Rosina for the second half and Samuel replaced the injured Paolo Zanetti.
The Granata's anger with the referee continued on 54 minutes, as another cracker of a Dzemaili effort thumped the upright and ricocheted into the path of Amoruso, but the goal was disallowed for an offside position.
Dzemaili set up a great chance that Roberto Stellone wasted by hesitating, but again Palermo again went close as Alex Calderoni got down to palm Miccoli's angled drive round the post. It was his first save of the game.
Rosina's snapshot was parried into the path of Stellone, who fired wide, as neither team could break through yet.
Calderoni was at full stretch to tip a Fabio Simplicio long-range blast off target, while Fontana was lucky to escape unscathed when he flapped at a corner to allow Ogbonna to nod wide at the back post.
Palermo's hopes of hanging on for a point were further dented eight minutes from time when Antonio Nocerino saw red for the visitors for striking Dzemaili in the face.
The drama continued right to the end, as Torino finally took advantage of the extra man to take the lead at the 88th minute. The defence failed to effectively clear a cross from the left and Saumel smacked a fierce volley from 20 metres!
