Fabrizio Miccoli got Palermo back on track, but Reggina boss Nevio Orlandi is at risk after a dismal start.
Davide Ballardini suffered his first defeat on the Rosanero bench midweek at Napoli and was eager to get back on track against a Reggina side that was in freefall following one point from four games. Former Amaranto man Igor Budan was injured along with Alberto Fontana, Mark Bresciano and Roberto Guana, while Ciccio Cozza, Giosa and Emanuele Cascione didn't make the trip.
Reggina's last victory here was in the 2002-03 Coppa Italia. They had a good chance to open the scoring after 12 minutes, but teammates Franco Brienza and Bernardo Corradi got in each others' way.
Palermo went closer soon after, as Fabrizio Miccoli volleyed a Giulio Migliaccio cross wide of the far post.
Miccoli split the Amaranto defence only to fire wide, while Fabio Simplicio wasted a promising opportunity by hesitating.
Moris Carrozzieri's header was over from six yards, as the deflected cross took him somewhat by surprise.
Miccoli broke the deadlock by pouncing on a defensive error. He shrugged off Bruno Cirillo's challange, cut back to send the goalkeeper to ground and chipped the ball over Campagnolo with the outside of his foot.
Fabio Simplicio's acrobatic attempt from a corner was deflected into Campagnolo's arms, while Miccoli blasted over with a powerful chest and volley.
