Serie A Week 8 - 21/10/07 (14.00 UK)
Udinese 1 - 1 Palermo
Amauri 17 (P), Asamoah 65 (U)
Stadio Friuli

Udinese could only snatch a point from this match despite dominating the play, but paid the price for some woeful finishing.

This was effectively a play-off for a UEFA Cup place and going into this weekend both teams were locked together on 11 points. Fabrizio Miccoli was sidelined with a calf strain and Giuseppe Biava suspended, as the Sicilians needed a boost after just one point from their last two games.

Udinese had a fantastic opportunity after seven minutes, as a corner kick came out to Antonio Di Natale for a stunning right-foot volley that was zipping under the bar before Alberto Fontana's crucial save.

The home side absolutely dominated the opening 16 minutes and Gyan Asamoah also hit the side-netting, but it was Palermo who struck with their first attempt against the run of play. Mark Bresciano dispossessed Gaetano D'Agostino and threaded through for Amauri to spring the offside trap and place an angled drive past Samir Handanovic.

Giulio Migliaccio went off injured to make way for Roberto Guana after just 23 minutes of play.

Udinese continued to pour forward, but first Di Natale only glanced an Andrea Dossena cross, then from the resulting corner Diaz Felipe couldn't quite turn in at the back post.

After the restart Palermo threatened to go 2-0 up with Fabio Caserta again on the counter, while Leandro Rinaudo couldn't make the most of a header.

Veteran shot-stopper Fontana flew across the face of goal to palm away a powerful long-range Dossena drive.

Udinese finally snatched a thoroughly deserved equaliser with a solo run from Gyan Asamoah. The Ghanaian youngster went on the counter and rode two tackles in the area to place a strong finish past Fontana.

They should have gone ahead on 75 minutes, but Di Natale rolled across for Asamoah to incredibly balloon over an open goal.

Moments later Dossena missed an equally simple chance, hitting the side-netting from point-blank range.

Palermo nearly took advantage of these extraordinary errors, but Handanovic was able to deny Amauri's powerful strike.
